Theophilus Benjamin (ATCL, LTCL) is one of the leading classical guitarists in the country. An active performer, Theophilus was part of the New Delhi Guitar Quartet, and has performed at the University of Peradeniya, Kandy and the Russian Cultural Center, Colombo in Sri Lanka and various parts of India including the Amaltas Hall and Stein Auditorium at India Habitat Center, New Delhi, the Instituto Cervantes in New Delhi, the Satyajit Ray Auditorium at ICCR Kolkata and the Victoria Memorial, Kolkata.
Some of his notable collaborations include interpretations of Bengali river songs with folk singer Saurav Moni and an interpretation of Enrique Granados’ Spanish Dance no.5 with the Spanish Mohinyattam danseuse Eugenia Carillo.
In August 2013, Theophilus performed with GFA Winner Johannes Moller at the Stein Auditorium at India Habitat Center, New Delhi. He is also featured on Johannes Moller’s album Rasleela (release date: Fall 2016).
Theophilus was a part of the guitar faculty at the Performers’ Collective School of Music, Gurgaon and The Delhi School of Music, The Calcutta Center for Communication & Creativity, as well as educational outreach programmes of the Calcutta Classical Guitar Society aimed at the children from villages and underprivileged sections of the society. He is currently based in Mumbai.
