About the composer and the composition – After the great composer Frédéric Chopin, Alexandre Tansman(1897-1986) may have been one of the leading proponents of traditional Polish musical forms such as the Mazurka or the Polonaise. Tansman’s works were inspired by and often written in homage to Chopin. A prolific orchestral composer and pianist, Tansman wrote some important works for the guitar. The Cavatine Suite is a collection of five dances written in a lyrical style. The fourth movement from this suite, the ‘Barcarolle’, is a traditional folk song sung by Venetian gondoliers, or a piece of music composed in that style. (source – Wikipedia)

Chick Corea Tribute – Children’s Song No. 1 played by Kuldeep

Chick Corea, an incredible pianist, composer, bandleader and educator was one of the finest musicians the world has known. From straight ahead Jazz and Crossover fusion to Classical Music, his output is staggering in its breadth and depth. The Pune Guitar Society pays a humble tribute to this genius with a nugget (Children’s Song No. 1) from his set of miniatures(originally composed for the piano) known as ‘Children’s Songs’. Chick Corea was influenced by the great Hungarian composer Bela Bartok’s works and one can hear that influence in this set of compositions. With beautiful ostinatos and interestingly syncopated rhythms (and polyrhythms), the ‘Children’s Songs’ are a treasure trove of brilliant melodic, harmonic and rhythmic writing.
